Vinayaka Chathurthi

Vinayaka or Ganesha Chathurthi is one of the most popular Hindu Festival through out the world. It is the most important festival connected with Lord Ganesha. It falls on the 4th day of the new moon of the Tamil month of Aavani (August/September) celebrated in the temple. Clay figures of Lord Ganesha are made, painted and decorated and after being worshipped for two days (or in some cases 10 days) are then thrown into running water such as rivers or the sea.

On Vinayaka Chathurthi, devotees read and meditate on the stories connected with Lord Ganesha, such as how He was born and how He came to have an elephant's head, why He broke off His tusk and how He won the golden mango. Then after taking a bath, devotees go to the temple and say their prayers to Lord Ganesha. They also worship Him at home with an image of Lord Ganesha, so that they may feel His presence there also. On this day, we must make fresh spiritual resolves and pray to Lord Ganesha for inner spiritual strength to attain success in all our undertakings. May the blessings of Lord Ganesha be upon you all. May he remove you all the obstacles that stand in your spiritual path. May He bestow upon you all material prosperity as well as liberation.
