| Sri Sivasubramaniar Temple (Murugan Temple) situated at Sihlweg-3, 8134 Adliswil was established during the year 1994. The poojas of the temple were then conducted only on Fridays in the evenings. As time went on the said temple developed and in the year 2000 deities made of metel of Lord Shiva, Lord Murugan, Lord Maha Ganapathy and Godesses Durka, Rajarajeswary Ambal etc. were installed. Thereafter the pooja ceremonies of the temple were performed daily in the evenings at 7.30. If there were any special requests made by anyone who is anxious to carry out a pooja for any God they like, his request would be taken up for process on the day suggested by him. The cost of the pooja ceremony has to be paid to the temple before the ceremony is carried out. Now the poojas are performed in the temple daily in the evening commencing from 7.30 P.M. On Tuesdays and on Fridays three poojas are performed. First pooja would be done in the morning, the 2nd pooja would be done at 12.00 O'clock mid-day and the last pooja would be done in the evening at 7.30 P.M. Most of the devotees attend the temple during the noon and in the evenings. |
| The pooja ceremonies pertaining to the Navarathiri Festival, Skandashasty Festival, Gowery Kappu Festival and the Thirivenpa pooja festival ceremonies are all conducted at a very grand scale by the officiating priests. The Maha Kumpapishekam pooja ceremonies of this temple was celebrated at a very grand scale by several priests who came from abroad. The Maha yearly High Festival of this temple will commence during the month of August every year and will go on for 10 to 12 days. During the season of the High Festival lot of worshippers and devotees attend the festival and fullfill their vows. |
| Lord Murugan |
| Lord Murugan is the second son of Lord Shiva. He is a picture of human perfection. The tamil word "Murugan" means beauty and youthfulness and Murugan is the God with these aspects. Subramaniam, Kanthan, Velan, Kadampan, Karthigesan, Kumaran and Saravanan are the other names of Murugan. And each name has its own special meaning. Arumugan is another name for Lord Murugan. It means the One with six faces. Lord Murugan is often depicted seated on a peacock which is often seen gripping a snake. He has His consorts Valli and Theivanai with Him, holds the Vel in His Hand and has a Seval (Cockeral) on his battle flag. By worshipping Lord Murugan, we will be blessed with jnanam (knowledge), beauty, youthfulness and courage. |
| New Year and Thai Pongal |
| On the 1st day of the year that is the 1st of January people attend the temple to worship in order to invoke the blessings of God on the 1st day of the newly born year. They attend the poojas and go back to their respective houses. Then comes the "Thai Pongal"; Thai Pongal day is an important day for farmers and this is conducted on the 14th of January every year. In the house of every Hindu Family Thai pongal is celebrated in their respective houses. Sweet milk rice is cooked which is called "pongal". After performing the pooja at home, members of the family sit together to enjoy the pongal- This Thai Pongal ceremony is conducted in the temple too. For this purposes the Murugan Temple will be kept opened from 8.00 A.M to 9.00 P.M. on the Pongal day, to enable the worshippers to attend the temple. |
